The Mata da Serreta Forest is a place of luxuriant vegetation on the slopes of a volcanic peak. Peneireiro, one of the best view points on the island is found here. This is an ideal place to relax and commune with nature and is also the starting point for one of the most charming walks of the island leading through cedar, laurel and eucalyptus trees. The Mata da Serreta is part of the protected area Reserva Florestal de Recreio da Mata da Serreta and has an attractive picnic and recreation zone.
