Housed in the former 18th century Bernardas Convent, this museum has a collection of more than 1,000 puppets, some of which date from the 17th and 18th centuries. Whilst most of the exhibits come from Portugal, there are many from other parts of the world including Italy and China. The museum, which is supported by the Gulbenkian Foundation, explains the history of this art form. There are frequent puppet shows in the theatre and you can try out the masks and create your own puppet show. This is an ideal family attraction.
