The Madeira Story Centre is situated near the Funchal- Monte cable station in the old part of town. This spectacular, interactive museum covers Madeira’s history, from its volcanic origin, discovery and trading history to the present day; usefully it concludes with the topic of exploring Madeira. Apart from the permanent exhibition, temporary presentations are also staged, featuring international and local artisans and artists. A useful way to start your visit to Madeira, there is even a café with themed decoration of the island’s history.
