In spite of its popularity, the village of Luz has managed to preserve its original atmosphere with narrow streets and whitewashed houses. Most of the houses in Luz de Tavira have the traditional "platibandas". These are borders painted with geometrical or floral motifs, framing the walls, windows and doorways. Many of them are masterpieces of mortar work. Particularly interesting are the ornate chimneys rising from the roofs. Also of interest is a Roman villa, excavated in the 19th century, whose main features include the Roman bath-house, with various outbuildings and mosaic pavements.
