A Lusitanian-Roman Villa was discovered at Courela da Fonte da Moura, not far from the tiny village of Santa Vitória do Ameixial. The Villa is an important find in archaeological terms due to the mosaics from the 3rd and 4th centuries that have been uncovered. The baths and a portion of the residential area have been excavated. Santa Vitória do Ameixial has another important connection with Portuguese history because it was here that the Battle of Ameixial was fought on June 8, 1663, between Spanish and Portuguese as part of the Portuguese Restoration War.
