The Lourosa Ornithological Park is located approximately 9 km north of Santa Maria da Feira, it houses more than 1500 birds of about 250 species. It is one of the most important ornithological parks in Europe, both in terms of preservation and reproduction. The park at present is 5 acres in extent, but there are a further 3 acres available for future development. Five continents are represented and the exotic species include the Egyptian Ibis, Malaysian pheasants, Cassowarys one of the oldest and the third largest flightless birds in the world and other rare and endangered species.
