The Lisbon University Science Museum (Museu de Ciência da Universidade de Lisboa) was established on the 8th May 1985 and, apart from its permanent features, is frequently used for temporary exhibitions. The small observatory is used for public interactive sessions and astronomy courses; one regular monthly public session is ‘Follow the Moon’. A small planetarium seats 38 and the permanent ‘Hands-on Exhibition’ is dedicated to all branches of physics. Also on display are objects formerly used for teaching, mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries and there is a library and documentation centre.
