Although it is Lisbon’s oldest church, the exterior of the building is not impressive. As a result of damage caused by periodic earthquakes, it is a mixture of many architectural styles. The original building dates from between 1147 and the early part of the 13th century. The many interesting items include the font where St Anthony of Padua is said to have been christened in 1195 and the casket containing the remains of St Vincent, the official patron saint of Lisbon. The interior treasures make the cathedral worthy of a visit.
