About 21 km northwest of Alcobaça is the seasonal village of Légua, which has a beach in beautiful surroundings. Although encroached by cane, the slopes are still home to natural habitat including the sea thistle. The beach is popular, but broad and long and not subject to overcrowding. There are sometimes large waves which provide excellent surfing. This is an EEC blue flag beach with seasonal supervision; the average seawater temperature is 16-18 ºC. It is a well known place for fishing and is suitable for body boarding. Parking is available and there are bar and restaurant facilities.
