Leopoldina Praia is a fine sand beach, which is very popular. Although small in dimension (it is only approximately 100 metres) it is pleasantly situated and surrounded by attractive countryside. Close to the castle, an area of natural swimming pools where one can observe the ruins of an ancient fortification that was once part of Vila Franca’s maritime defence complex, this is a wonderful place to soak up some history along with the sun’s rays. Parking is available and the beach is accessed by a pedestrian path. It is not supervised.
