Lajes Parish Church, the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, has many notable features. Perhaps the most interesting of these would be the early 19th century organ. There is also and outstanding alabaster statue of the Virgin Mary. The church previously belonged to a former Franciscan convent built in the 18th century and currently houses the Town Hall. The church itself was first constructed in the 17th century on the site of a former chapel. Renovations of the building took place in the 18th century.
