Ilha de Cabanas is a narrow, but long, strip of land situated opposite the village of Cabanas, whose origin dates back to the old days of tuna fishing in this area, and which remains a fishing village even today. The branch of the Ria that separates the island from the mainland is quite narrow and it is possible to swim across it at low tide. There are taxi boats to the island from the waterfront at Cabanas, a journey that only takes a few minutes. The beach has basic restaurant and toilet facilities and is supervised during the bathing season.
