Of the numerous churches in Vila Viçosa, all of which are of great historical and artistic interest and should be visited, the Igreja Santo António deserves a special mention. It is situated in the Largo Santo António, between the Convent of Santa Cruz (Holy Cross) and the Castle, so is convenient to combine with a trip to the castle. It is a fine example of the Renaissance style, with an interior extremely rich in decorative wall tiles. It also has a wonderful array of religious paintings and gilt woodworked decoration.
