The church was rebuilt following the earthquake of 1755. The main entrance is from the former building and Manueline in style (16th century) and the side doorways date from the same period. The interior is made up of three naves with capitals fashioned in the shape of twisted ropes. In the main chapel is an 18th century carved and gilded retable with two angels holding up the sun and the moon and an interesting tabernacle in the form of a miniature church. The 18th century statue of Our Lady of the Conception is attributed to the sculptor Machado de Castro.
