The Igreja de São Vicente, which was first constructed in 1500, is the main church of Cuba. It was built at the request of the friars of St. Vincent, a religious order with great power in Cuba at this time. Over the centuries the church has been renovated, with the addition of azuelos being typical of this. Its spacious interior is decorated with fine examples of these "carpet-patterned" tiled panels dating from the 17th century. The church’s facade is white washed and decorated with ochre trim, which is very typical of the region.
