The Igreja de São Pedro (church of St Peter) in Elvas is Romanesque-gothic in style and dates from the 12th century, although later modifications are more in the Baroque style. The archivolt entrance has an iron door. The vestibule, with its composition decorated with leaves of Hera in the capitals, is the only remnant of the original primitive workmanship. The current structure is the result of successive restorations and renovations from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
