Construction on the Church of Santo António began in 1606. Although the convent buildings were destroyed in the great earthquake, a small cloister and the church survived and were given to the Friars of Saint Anthony in 1856. Architecturally this is a simple religious building, but in artistic terms it is delightful. There are 17th century frescos over the vaults of the main chapel and a rococo altarpiece. A set of life-sized sculpted clay figures from the 17th century, depicting three episodes from the life of Saint Anthony of Padua, is entitled "Transition of Saint Anthony".
