The Igreja da Santa Cruz is in the Ribeira parish. Built in 13th century, it was restored and then completely rebuilt in the 16th century. It still, however, contains the tombs and coat of arms of its founders (Lourenço Domingos Minatos and his wife Eiria Affonso Caeira). There are a number of interesting Baroque features including the main entrance dating from 1712, the painted ceilings and the azulejos. The Sala da Irmandade (the Room of the Brotherhood) was added to the church in the 18th century. The walls are lined with blue and white azulejos depicting Old Testament scenes.
