The Church of Cartuxa, just outside Évora in Sé, is a 16th century Renaissance style building. The church had its façade altered in the 17th century, thus incorporating Mannerist elements. This elegant structure was commissioned by the Portuguese royal family, as is evident in the proportions which reveal the character of the building. Although the exterior is the star of the show, it is well worth visiting the interior, which has many treasures and also houses one of the largest carved woodwork altarpieces in the country.
