The Idol Fountain is the sole known remaining monument of Bracara Augusta, which was the name of Braga under the Roman Empire, when it was the capital of the province of Gallecia and named after the emperor Augustus. It was a rupestrian shrine dedicated to the indigenous god Tomsoenabriago and is now in a garden in the Rua do Raio. The granite rock is sculpted with a bearded man holding what is assumed to be a basket of fruit and the bust of a man who could be the dedicator. There are also inscriptions in ancient Celtic.
