Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935) is considered by many as one of the world’s great poets. The house in which he lived towards the end of his life was opened in 1993 as a museum to further encourage study of Pessoa’s works and life. Researchers from all parts of the world make use of its excellent library. Pessoa wrote in the name of various hetoronyms (characters created by the writer) and at least 72 are known, the most common being Alberto Caeiro, Ricardo Reis and Alvaro de Campos. Amongst the items of interest is a first edition of his book ‘Mensagem’ (Message).
