Situated between Alter do Chão and Monforte is Cabeço de Vide, a quiet and pleasant oasis in the Alentejo plain. The remains of baths, supposedly dating from the Caesar Augustus period (119 B.C.), testify that these waters were used in the Roman period. The hot springs are still in use today and a thermal spa now welcomes visitors to the delights of the waters. The therapeutic benefits are said to aid diseases of the respiratory system, rheumatic and musculoskeletal problems and skin diseases.
