Housed in the former Jesuit College since 1989, the Horta Museum exhibits a heterogeneous collection of significant pieces from the island’s cultural heritage. Among the museum’s extensive collections, which document the island’s history, are antique paintings and furniture as well as a remarkable collection of filigree miniature art works made of the white pulp of fig trees, created by the local artist Euclides Selveira da Rosa and comprising windmills, sailing boats, landscapes, town houses, and many more. Also noteworthy are the ethnographical sections and the collection of paintings from the 16th to the 20th century, with works by António Dacosta, Manuel Lapa, Mário Cesariny and Sousa Pinto.
