The campus of the Higher Technical Institute in Lisbon, consisting of a complex of integrated buildings, is one of the most important examples of architectural Modernism in Portugal. It was designed in 1927 by Porfírio Pardal Monteiro (1897-1957), whose other works in Lisbon include the Diário de Notícias Building and the design of the National Library. The campus is at one end of the grassed area of the Alameda Dom Afonso Henriques, with the beautiful 1948 Fonte Luminosa at the other end, which is often illuminated at nights.
