The Hermitage of Sao Sebastião (St. Sebastian) was built in medieval times and the gothic chapel with its panelled vault is a relic of the original structure. The main chapel has an 18th century, carved and gilded retable in the altar. The walls are decorated with 17th century blue and white and patterned polychrome azuelo tiles. This way of decorating churches, with tiles depicting religious scenes, is common throughout Portugal and usually, as in this case, honours the patron saint of the church.
