The Calouste Gulbenkian Gardens form the setting for the foundation building of the same name, the museum and the modern art centre. The approximately 17 acre park was designed by the landscape architects Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles and António Viana Barreto, who worked in close collaboration with other architects for the various buildings. The park contains a wide variety of indigenous and tropical plants, an artificial lake, a rose garden, formal gardens, water gardens and an open-air theatre, all carefully landscaped. The park also serves as an open-air museum for modern sculptures by Portuguese and international sculptors including Henry Moore.
