Located in a 17th century seminary, linked by a chapel to the Bishop’s Palace, the Guarda Museum was opened in 1940 and houses a wide range of exhibits. In the basement there is an Arms Room whilst on the ground floor the four rooms exhibit chronologically, Pre-History, the Roman Period, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The upper floor is used for temporary exhibitions such as ethnography, handicrafts and painting. One section is devoted to the local poet Augusto Gil (1873-1929). Amongst the many items on display are Roman coins, ceramics, religious and other sculptures and paintings and regional ethnography.
