Guadalupe is a typical, rural village, with attractive whitewashed houses set decorated with vividly coloured plants. It is situated about 3 km south of Santa Cruz towards the interior, and is the second biggest town on the island. Three roads lead out from the village in different directions and run between the hill ranges of Serra das Fontes and Serra Dormida. The roads meet in the centre of Guadalupe, where the 18th century church of Nossa Senhora da Guadalupe and a Holy Ghost chapel can be found. The 18th century chapel of Sao Miguel Arcanjo is also worthy of a visit.
