The Gruta do Natal is considered one of the best caves for anyone new to the different lava features that are to be found in the Azores. This one has so much to offer, showing the beauty and novelty that this type of natural phenomenon affords. This spectacular grotto contains stalactites and stalagmites. During the Christmas season, whenever possible, the Christmas mass is held here, which is how the cave gained its name (Gruta do Natal means Christmas Grotto). It is 697 metres in length and it is recommended to conduct the visit with a guide.
