The Gruta da Maria Encantada is a 15 metre volcanic corridor making its way through a crater wall. It opens onto the wooded interior of the crater. The Gruta da Maria on the upper level and the Furna da Abel lower down are both located on the west side of the crater. The best way to reach them is from Canada Longa on the road running around the crater. Visitors, entering the cave from outside, are often stunned by the beauty of the view over the caldera.
