The Furna da Abel near Beco is a volcanic corridor, which resulted from the formation of gas in the cooling lava of the Caldeira. This cave is a short part of a typical lava tube. There are numerous lava tubes in this area, but this one is signposted and easy to find. These other caves are not lit and are further off the crater wall, but they are accessible and can best be reached from Canada Longa on the road running around the crater.
