Inaugurated in 2000, the cable car is an exciting way to travel to Monte and enjoy the panoramic views of Funchal bay and the Babosas valley from the gondola. The departure station is at the Almirante Park in the old part of town and the station in Monte is near the Monte Palace Tropical Garden amidst amazing scenery. The journey covers about 3.7 kms, has a rise of about 560 metres, and takes about 11 minutes. The cable car also operates between Monte and the Botanical Gardens.
