The controversial Franjinhas building, at the intersection of Rua Braamcamp and Rua Castilho, won the Valmor Prize for architecture in 1971. Designed by Nuno Teotónio Pereira and João Braula Reis, it was the subject of much discussion because the appearance shocked a large percentage of the public at the time. It is an office building with commercial premises on the lower floors; the building gets its name of ‘little fringes’, from the solution adopted to provide solar protection to the windows.
