Located to the south of Valdares beach and about 9.5 km southwest of Vila Nova de Gaia, the large Francelos Beach is rich in iodine with therapeutic properties. The strong waves bring surfers and body boarders and the plentiful supply of fish attracts fishermen. To the south, Francemar and Sãozinha beaches take their names from the cafes servicing them. This is an EEC blue flag beach with lifeguards on duty in season and facilities for the disabled. The average seawater temperature in summer is 16 ºC. Parking is available, umbrellas can be hired and there are bars, cafes and restaurants.
