One of the best viewing points on the southern coast is the Miradouro da Antiga Fortaleza da Arrifana (ancient fort of Arrifana), in Aljezur, from where you have some stunning views along the whole of the Costa Vicentina. Situated at the top of a cliff, the fort once protected the coast from attack; the site now offers tourists unparalleled views of the Pedra da Agulha (Needle Stone), a giant rock sticking up from the middle of the sea. Breathtaking is too small a word to describe the panorama.
