The Formigas is a group of eight islets making up a natural reserve situated 37 km off the coast of Santa Maria. It is an extremely popular place for Big Game Fishing and for diving. It is also the resting and nesting place for many different species of seabirds. The Formigas have special biological interest and form a natural reserve of 35.42 km². The size of the emerged islets is about 9,000 m². Dollabarat, a reef, is situated 3 nautical miles (5 km) southwest from the Formigas Islets.
