The Parque do Fontelo is an extensive prize winning leisure area, which has preserved both the environment and the ancient bishop’s palace of Fontelo. The park houses the Municipal Stadium and a camp site; leisure facilities include a jogging track, swimming pools, gymnasium, tennis courts, skating rink and football pitches. The site was bought in 1149 by the then Bishop of Viseu and in 1339 Bishop João Homem began the building of the palace, the chapel of São Jerónimo was commissioned in the 16th century. The Solar do Dao, a regional wine tasting bar, can be found in the palace.
