Situated behind the castle keep, in the former palace of the Dukes of Bragança, is the Museum da Regiã Flaviense. The stone coat of arms of the Duke of Bragança sits imposingly above the doorway. In 1739 the site became a military barracks and a prison, but the museum now details the history of the region through archaeology and ethnography. Items of interest include souvenirs of the Roman occupation such as coins, pottery, and prehistoric stone relics and a section devoted to modern art which includes Nadir Afonso who comes from Chaves. The building also houses the Municipal Library.
