Located 3 km north of Castelo Rodrigo, the pleasant town of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo developed from the 18th century onwards and about 12 km southeast from there is the village of Almafola. The road passes the Santa Maria de Aguiar dam and about 1 km from Almafola there is a circa 16th century carved granite cross, erected by pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. Nearby is the ruined Torre das Įguias, formerly a Roman temple. Southwest of Figueira is the high point (977 metres) of the Serra da Marofa, which has a massive stone statue of Christ the King.
