Since 1881, although there are records relating to earlier markets, a regular flea market has been held on Tuesdays and Saturdays on the Campo de Santa Clara near the Igreja de Sao Vicente de Fora. Santa Apolónia is the nearest metro. This is the well known Lisbon Thieves Market, similar to those in Madrid and Paris. Bargains are hard to find, but there are unusual items on sale, and you will find representation of Portugal’s colonial past on the stalls.
