Originally built in the Romanesque style between 1186 and 1204, the Cathedral was restored in the gothic style in the 14th century. Two asymmetrical towers flank the entrance doorway and dominate the façade. The twelve apostles by Master Pêro, in the entrance portal, is regarded as a masterpiece of Portuguese Gothic sculpture and one of the most important features of the Cathedral. Note also the fine altar in white black and pink marble and the large Renaissance organ, thought to be the oldest in Europe
