The Espírito Santo Church is located close to the Rua do Conde Ferreira bridge over the River Lis. It was built in 1628 and was rebuilt in the 18th century. The Espirito Santo friary was established in 1306 and maintained a hospital, which was handed over to the Misericórdia de Leiria (see separate entry) when it was formed in the 16th century. Two fine friary treasures remain in the form of 16th and 17th century statues of the Holy Spirit and St Rita. The single nave church is plain with the wood decoration being painted to imitate marble.
