The Electricity museum is housed in the old Central Tejo or Lisbon power station in Belém, classified as a national heritage. Building started in 1914 and the power station came into operation in 1919. Now the beautiful imposing old brick building and its equipment have been restored and the old furnaces, boilers and coal chutes are used to explain the history of power generation. Different energy sources are explained, with particular emphasis on renewable energy, and there is a section devoted to the foremost scientists, concerned with the discovery and development of electricity.
