Named after the monarch’s visit in 1903, the Edward VII Park is not only Lisbon’s largest inner-city park, but also one of its favourite tourist spots. With clipped box hedges, mosaic walkways and ponds, its most notable features are the two large glasshouses (estufas) housing exotic and tropical plants, palms and cacti (see separate entry for estufa fria). There is a sports pavilion dedicated to Carlos Lopes, the Portuguese athlete who won the marathon at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and a lakeside restaurant.
