The house museum of Eça de Queirós is located at Tormes which, although only about 13 km as the crow flies across the River Douro from Resende, is approximately 30 km by road. It is probably best combined with a visit to Cinfães. Eça de Queirós (1845-1900) was one of Portugal’s greatest novelists and the museum is dedicated to the preservation of the writer’s memory, the unique landscape setting vividly described in his books and his personal collections. His most famous work is possibly ‘The Crime of Father Amaro’ (1875), which was made into the film by Carlos Carrera in 2002.
