The Douro International Nature Park covers parts of the municipalities of Miranda do Douro, Mogadouro, Freixo de Espada à Cinta and Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo. It is one of 13 national parks and stretches along the 122 km Douro River boundary between Portugal and Spain and also along the border area of the Águeda River. Created to protect the landscape of the region as well as its fauna and flora, the park covers an area of about 335 square miles and its altitude varies between 125 and 825 metres.
