The Melriça Dolmen is missing its corridor and has an irregular polygonal chamber. Three of its original stone supports are still fully intact. A dolmen is a megalithic chambered tomb, with a large flat stone laid on upright ones. Megalithic monuments such as this date back several thousand years. Portugal is fortunate in having many of these relics of former times and the Alentejo is particularly rich. The dolmen is located in private property, therefore visitors should previously contact +351 245 901 361 to arrange for officers from the Municipal Archaeology Unit to accompany organised groups.
