The 17th century Azurara Palace houses this outstanding museum which captures aristocratic life in the 18th and 19th centuries. Bought by the wealthy banker Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva and decorated with his private collection, it was handed over to the state in 1953 as a museum and school. The 17th and 18th century furniture is of great importance, but the museum also exhibits textiles, tapestries, porcelain, silver, glass and paintings by Portuguese and foreign artists. Note the original wooden floors, painted ceilings and azuelos panels to the main staircase and exhibition halls and do not miss the workshops.
