In 1861 Porto started its own version of London’s Crystal Palace, a steel and glass structure which was replaced in 1952 by the present Pavilhão Rosa Mota. Also known as the Pavilhão dos Desportos, it can seat 10,000 spectators at concerts or sporting events. This building is set in beautiful gardens, a peaceful park with lush green lawns, statues, ponds, exotic plants and peacocks. A fair is held here at festa time. There are superb views of the city and the River Douro.
