Criação Velha (meaning Old Creaton) is the true home of Verdelho wine. The golden grapes ripen on large beds of lava at the place called Lajido in the parish of the Crianza Vieja. This is the most representative and conserved plot of the entire wine growing zone. The area constitutes an exceptional testimony to the history of a cultural tradition. The landscape is an unusual one for wine production, but illustrates perfectly the wonderful results that can be gained under such conditions.
